Are formulas recalculated?
No. Existing formulas are preserved but not recalculated in the browser. Saved files keep both the displayed values and formulas.
Which format is used when saving an XLS file?
You can open and edit XLS files, and changed copies are saved as XLSX by default. Some original cell formatting and macros are not preserved, and macros are never run.
